How to write bonus terms players actually understand
Confusing bonus terms are the number one source of complaints and support tickets. The good news: structure solves it.
The first-screen rule
Within five seconds, a player should see four things: what they get, for what, the wagering requirement and how long they have to meet it. Everything else goes below, in the full terms.
Bonus card template
| Parameter | How to write it | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Amount | Percentage + maximum | 100% up to €500 |
| Condition | Player action | On your first deposit of €20+ |
| Wagering | Multiplier + base | 35x the bonus amount |
| Deadline | A specific number of days | 7 days from crediting |
| Max bet | Amount and currency | €5 while wagering |
| Withdrawal cap | Mandatory if it exists | No more than 10× the bonus |
Explain wagering with an example
“35x wagering” is clear to experienced players but not to beginners. Add one sentence with the maths:
For example, with a €100 bonus you need to place bets totalling €3,500 (100 × 35) before you can withdraw your winnings.
Always state the base: is wagering calculated on the bonus or on “deposit + bonus”? That's a twofold difference — and a frequent cause of disputes.
Excluded games — as a list
Don't hide them in a wall of text. A list or table showing each game's contribution (slots 100%, roulette 10%, live casino 0%) saves the player time and the support team tickets.
No pressure
“Hurry!”, “Today only!!!”, “Don't miss out” — aggressive calls to action in bonus copy are increasingly restricted by regulators. A specific end date works better and is more honest.
